Setting up a dial up networking connection

Setting up a dial up networking connection The information displayed on this screen has been optimised for you to print.
This will explain how to connect to Pinnacle through Windows 2000 Professional.
If your machine is connected to a local area network, check with the system administrator before continuing with these instructions.

Essential components

  1. Pinnacle Dial-Up User ID and Password (Please call 01903 524999 to order this, if you do not already have details)
  2. Correctly installed modem

Ensure that Dial-Up Networking has been installed.

  1. Begin by clicking on Start
  2. Next click on Settings
  3. Select Network and Dial-Up Connections
  4. Then select Make New Connection.  A Connection Wizard will now appear
  5. Click Next
  6. Select the Dial-up to private network button
  7. Click Next
  8. Select the correct Modem
  9. Click Next
  10. Enter the area code 0845 and then the phone number 079 8774
  11. Ensure the country code is set to United Kingdom
  12. Click Next
  13. Select For all users in this screen
  14. Click Next
  15. Enter Pinnacle Internet for the name of the connection and also select Add shortcut to my desktop
  16. Click Finish
  17. Next you will see a connection window with a user name and password box
  18. In the username box enter your UKPNN/pnna*** number supplied to you by Pinnacle
  19. In the password box enter your password, also supplied to you by Pinnacle
  20. Check that the number in the Dial box is 0845 079 8774. If this not the case see trouble shooting guide below

Additional Settings

  1. Next select the Properties button.
  2. A new window will appear with five tabs on the top.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Ensure that the settings on this window is 'accept any authentication'
  5. Select the Networking tab.
  6. On this form select Settings button.
  7. Uncheck Enable Software Compression radio button.
  8. Uncheck Enable LCP Extensions radio button.
  9. Uncheck Multilink option radio button.
  10. Click OK
  11. Ensure that the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is installed. If this is not the case see the trouble shooting guide below
  12. Highlight the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
  13. Now click on the Properties button.
  14. In this new window select Use The Following DNS Addresses radio button.
  15. In the primary DNS enter 194.131.104.225
  16. No secondary DNS is required.
  17. Click OK
  18. Then click OK again
  19. You will now be back to the Connect-to-box
  20. Now click on the Dial button.

Trouble Shooting

  1. If section is unable to provide an answer please contact Technical Support. Ensure you record any error messages that appear
  2. Ensure you have your user details, if not please contact Pinnacle Administration
  3. Ensure that your Username & Password are entered correctly, paying attention to upper & Lower case.
  4. If having trouble with Dial-Up Networking go to the Microsoft Knowledge Base where you can search for information on any Microsoft product.
  5. If you do not have TCP/IP installed
  6. Simply follow the additional settings procedure, and click Install on the Networking Tab
  7. You will now be presented with a small window with 3 options, select protocol click Add
  8. Now you will be presented with a list of protocols, select TCP/IP
  9. Click OK to finish the required edits
