Precedent was commissioned to design and build ‘The Pulse’, the new intranet site for the London Ambulance Service. We initially undertook a series of workshops to identify both a user focused structure for the site and relevant content. This was crucial to the project as many of the staff the LAS hoped to reach through the intranet have only infrequent access to computers. With this in mind and because the very nature of the LAS is to be able to respond at a moments notice, the site was designed and built using simple and effective navigation, allowing employees to access information ‘on the run’ in the quickest and easiest way possible. Additional items of interest were added to the site to encourage usage and this included items as simple as having the weather on the Home page and opinion polls on topical issues.

The site was completed within three months of commissioning and is content managed by the LAS using the Precedent content management system, CAST.

We also undertook a parallel project to redesign the LAS Internet site aimed at increasing public awareness of the service and to encourage recruitment
